I (punkDharmaandDaleks) am starting this blog to make a sort of community with all of the Buddhists on tumblr. My aim is not to unite all branches of study and lifestyle, but to allow a haven of sorts. As a Buddhist who was raised fiercely Christain, with no resources to push me along, I know how hard it can be just starting out as a Buddhist. How you can be buffeted with images and information that, quite frankly, is all bullshit. The experience was worth it though, and what led to this. I do hope you guys and gals enjoy.

Zen students are with their masters at least ten years before they presume to teach others. Nan-in was visited by Tenno, who, having passed his apprenticeship, had become a teacher. The day happened to be rainy, so Tenno wore wooden clogs and carried an umbrella. After greeting him Nan-in remarked: “I suppose you left your wodden clogs in the vestibule. I want to know if your umbrella is on the right or left side of the clogs.”

Tenno, confused, had no instant answer. He realized that he was unable to carry his Zen every minute. He became Nan-in’s pupil, and he studied six more years to accomplish his every-minute Zen.

To make true progress

you must step forward, into what is forbidden by ignorance, abandon the truths of the world, and begin to develop the truths of yourself. Harvest that courage and knowledge this will bring you and do what is right.

-Douglas Adams

American youthful Buddhism: “Keep your mouth shut!”

Just because you think it, does not mean to act on it. Unless someone asks or is in dire need of it, give no advice, but advise in introspection and mindfulness. In today’s day and age, most people don’t give a damn about your opinion and your advice, while it may help, may also be harmful. Never cause the unwarrented harm to someone.

As is a key idea in most concepts: Use your head for more than a hat rack (Be mindful and careful)

Pearls of youthful American Buddhism: Inaction

Through inaction, one tends to have a more profound effect on their present situation.

example: While two classmates bicker over whatever drama, probably tweeny romancy shit, you grow more and more irritated. By not acting, you will most likely cause yourself less stress and not cause any harm.

example 2: I’m very lazy and while I would llooovveee to take the time to spell this out for all of your lovlies, I won’t. By my inaction, I’m forcing you to think and analyze information by yourself. chop chop, zennies.

A summary of Right Action

If you don’t feel it, don’t think it.
If you don’t think it, don’t speak it.
If you don’t speak it, don’t act on it.
If you don’t act on it, don’t feel it.
